Jared Rampulla, of Wind Gap, was driving to work just after 4:30 a.m. at Mauer & Scott in Northampton when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into an oncoming vehicle on Route 512, township police said. He died at the scene.Donald Sotak, of Whitehall Township, was driving the other vehicle and was treated at the trauma center at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township and later released, police said Tuesday.Rampulla's flag-draped stretcher was ceremoniously taken from the hospital into a hearse and was saluted with flags, flashing lights and local firefighters along the way to the George G. Bensing Funeral Home.Calling hours will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Schoeneck Moravian Church where Rampulla was an active member in Nazareth, his obituary said. A funeral service with firefighter honors is set for 11 at the church, 316 N. Broad St. Extension.Rampulla will be buried in God's Acre at the church, his obituary said.Rampulla, from a firefighting family, was a 10-year member of Nancy Run Fire Company in Bethlehem Township and was posthumously promoted to captain.He is survived by son, Levi, and fiancee, Christa Bet, with whom he lived; his parents, Michael and Allene Rampulla, of Bethlehem; brothers Nolan, Mason and Jonah; sister, Halle, as well as three grandparents and various other relatives, his obituary said.Rampulla was born Nov. 15, 1991, at St. Luke's Hospital in Fountain Hill, was a 2010 graduate of Liberty High School and previously lived in Bethlehem.Tony Rhodin may be reached at arhodin@lehighvalleylive.com. Hughes IIMarch 15, 2018David T. Hughes II, 50, of Stroudsburg, passed away at St. Luke's University Hospital in Fountain Hill on Thursday, March 15, 2018. Born in East Stroudsburg on March 17, 1967, he was the son of Elsie I. (Wilson) Hughes, of Stroudsburg and the late David T. Hughes.David graduated from East Stroudsburg High School in 1985, as well as Monroe County Vo-Tech. A skilled tradesman, David worked in the masonry profession and was also a drywall installer. His children, however, were the most important part of his life and he cherished spending time with them.In addition to his loving mother, Elsie, he is survived by his three children: Andrea, Jacob and Daniel, all of Lehighton; two sisters: Samantha Holden and her husband, Richard, of East Stroudsburg, and Janine Smaltz of Plainfield Township; two nieces, June and Emily; and three nephews: Thomas, Steven and Jonathan.There will be no calling hours. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Robert G. Thomas, and her brothers, Michael, James and Frederick Bresset. She was born in Honesdale on March 9, 1938, to Rosemary (Coyne) and George Bresset.Along with her son, Jeffrey L. Thomas, she worked in real estate for more than 50 years and remained active in the business until her recent hospitalization. Prior to her death, she received wonderful care from her pulmonologist, Dr. Khemraj H. Sedani, M.D.She is survived by her children: Martha Coyer (Bruce) of Dunmore; Jeffery L. Thomas (Beth) of Reeders; Rebecca Mixon (Robert) of Gainesville, Florida; and David Thomas (Denise) of Reeders; and her brother, Stephen Bresset, of Honesdale. She had four grandchildren she adored: Andrew and Kylie Thomas, and Sarah and Collin Mixon.Mary Lou was happiest when all of her family was around her. She was an incredible mother, grandmother, and work partner, whose absence will leave an unfillable void. She was deeply loved by many people in her life. Three words describe her: Best. Mother.
